ARCH1102 Expt 3 - Final Model Images

The whole model in general.

Carlos Slim's space:

Carlos Slim may be the richest man in the world but he still places importance in family values. Hence, three smaller cubes to represent his three sons and all these cubes progress larger in size to the largest that represents him and symbolises the strong bonds he has between him and his sons.

Strong monumental columns are a representation of Carlos Slim's dominance in his career.

The lighting is the brightest in the last cube to emphasise on his current success. The journey to where he is now was a hard one, filled with trials and tribulations.

Zhang Yin's space:

Overview.

Entrance.

When Zhang Yin first started, her business was met with many obstacles and uncertainties. The uneven and random steps are a portrayal of her journey to her current success. Like how it was, Zhang Yin will first have to encounter the bumpy steps before getting to the main area of her office.

The main area of her office.
The main wall is softly lit to reflect her humble personality.

From the main area, looking outwards.

Zhang Yin has a very open attitude towards the way she handles her empire. However, she still very much values her privacy and hence, rarely granting interviews to the media. The non-conjoined walls attempt to define her space without entirely isolating her from the outside world and yet allows her to enjoy her privacy.

Dining Table, Elevators and Meeting Space:

Concept sketches for dining table which doubles as the elevators.
The dining table was inspired from the concept of Yin and Yang . Each elevator is half a piece of the mobile table. It shows the coming-together of two major super powers in the economic world. The table also symbolises the union between East and West in harmony and balance.

The meeting space.

View of the meeting space from the side.

The tables or elevators come together to meet in the middle of the meeting space and forms a temporary platform of where a union of ideas meet.

The floor is static and flat but the texture applied to it gives the impression that it is in motion. The effect is even more obvious when the elevators glide across the room over the floor. The effect is almost similar to rippling waves that are never constant, just like how the world in which these two super powers dominate is always changing.
